• Harrison Backpack Program

    Volunteers with the Harrison Backpack Program prepare food for students.

     

    The Harrison Backpack Program strives to ensure that Harrison School District students do not go hungry when school is not in session.

     

    Prior to weekends and school vacations, volunteers gather to fill backpacks with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food that students can take home. Thanks to the community’s overwhelming and ongoing support, about 200 backpacks per week are distributed to Harrison School District students in need.

     

    How Can I Help?

     

    The Harrison Backpack Program accepts monetary and food donations. We are also looking for volunteers to help fill backpacks every week.

  • Donating Money

    Please make checks payable to the Harrison School District and write “Backpack Program” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed or delivered to 110 S. Cherry Street, Harrison, AR 72601.

     

    Donating Food

    Backpack contents vary on a week-to-week basis. However, the district is always in need of non-perishable and nutritious food items that can be placed in student backpacks. Because of food allergy concerns, we cannot accept or distribute items containing peanuts or peanut butter — or any homemade items.

     

    Some of our most popular items in backpacks include:

     

    • Small Boxes of Cereal
    • Canned Meats (Tuna, Chicken, Ham, Spam etc.)
    • Cheese Crackers
    • Granola Bars
    • Macaroni & Cheese
    • Microwavable Containers of Food (Ravioli, Pasta, Soup)
    • Ramen Noodles
    • Applesauce, Fruit & Pudding Cups
    • Beef Jerky
    • Oatmeal
    • Fruit Bars
    • Pop Tarts

     

    Donations are accepted on any day the Administration Building is open. Please visit us at 110 S. Cherry Street in Harrison.
