Dozens of Harrison School District students and their families stand to receive new shoes this winter following a generous donation from the local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization.

Chapter AG of the PEO donated 18 pairs of new shoes to the district’s Clothing Closet, which provides a wide variety of new and gently-used items to any Harrison student who needs them — free of charge.

The chapter also donated $440 so the closet may purchase additional pairs of shoes as needed, as well as socks and undergarments. Rebecca Williams, who oversees the district’s School-Based Human Services initiatives, accepted the donation from Chapter AG representative Cathy Brandt this week.

New shoes are some of the closet’s most coveted items, particularly at this time of the year as winter weather becomes more common. Students need appropriate footwear for physical education classes, plus shoes that will hold up outdoors in inclement weather. Thanks to donations like these, the district is proud to be able to make these important items available to families who might otherwise go without.

Located inside the Administration Building at 110 S. Cherry Street, the Clothing Closet accepts clothing donations on any day the Administration Building is open. Monetary donations are also accepted; please make a check payable to the Harrison School District and write “Clothing Closet” in the memo line.
