students in classroom working

Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Wiley Jones spent the day at Harrison High School Wednesday talking with students. Mr. Jones' presentation, organized by HHS Career Coach Mitzi Cantrell, was designed to make students aware of options and opportunities available to them after graduation.

Budgeting and responsibilities such as rent, utilities, groceries, insurance, and more were discussed to increase awareness of responsibilities following graduation. Students then worked together to develop a budget to cover basic needs. The activity continued with exploration of the benefits of job training and education to prepare for future careers.

Mr. Jones then encouraged students to learn a trade or earn a degree, and discussed options available to pay for their training. These options included scholarships, grants, work study programs, and the military.
