Harrison School District Superintendent Dr. Stewart Pratt recently sat down with Richard Harness of KCWD/KNWA radio to share an update on the start of the school year and upcoming events.

It's Homecoming Week!

Dr. Pratt took a moment to highlight this week's Homecoming festivities. He noted that it's going to be a big week, with celebrations and activities planned at all school buildings leading up to the Friday night game against Farmington. Homecoming is always a huge event, and the district is excited for the community to join in the celebration!

Focus on Student Growth and Literacy

A major focus right now is ensuring that every student is on the path to success. Dr. Pratt explained that staff have been conducting literacy and math assessments over the past few weeks to get a precise understanding of each student's progress and growth. Based on the assessment results, the district will provide additional support or remediation to students who need it.

The Power of Reading

Dr. Pratt stressed that the number one goal is for all students to graduate with high-level reading skills, as this translates to much better outcomes in adult life. He also encouraged all parents to read aloud to their children and to model good reading habits!

Construction Update: Progressing Well

Good news on the construction front! Dr. Pratt provided an update on the road work in front of the middle school and high school, sharing insights from Mayor Jackson. Despite recent rain, the city and Crouse Construction are working hard. The hope is to have things back to normal around Thanksgiving, and definitely before Christmas. Dr. Pratt extended a big thank you to the city and Crouse Construction for being mindful of the school traffic, buses, and overall safety.

Gratitude for Community Support

Dr. Pratt wrapped up the interview by expressing deep appreciation for the community. He acknowledged how blessed the district is to be in the Midwest and in the great state of Arkansas, thanking the county and community for their unwavering support of education.
