Get ready to be inspired, Goblins!

The Harrison Middle School (HMS) FBLA students are back for their second year of the incredible "Knitting for a Cause" project—and the roots of this heartwarming initiative run deep!

A Legacy of Giving

The idea was first sparked over 17 years ago in DeWitt, Arkansas, in the classroom of teacher Carole Anderson (who is also the mother of our own HMS FBLA sponsor, Molly Thurman!). Mrs. Anderson taught her students to knit warm caps for children, a project she called "Knitting for Noggins."

When Mrs. Thurman was just 14, she adopted her mom’s idea for her own FBLA project, which went on to place in the top 4 at state competitions two years in a row! It was only natural that when she became a teacher here at HMS, she brought this powerful tradition with her.

Exceeding Expectations!

Last year, inspired by Mrs. Thurman's long-standing family tradition and dedication, student Ella Davidson took the project on and set an ambitious goal: 900 caps for patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Did they meet it? They crushed it! The FBLA team delivered:

  • 900 caps to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

  • 200 caps to North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.

This year they have expanded outreach and are currently knitting hats for residents of local resident homes, leading to the project's new name: "Knitting for a Cause." Ella's hard work and dedication not only earned her 1st place at the FBLA State competition but also an amazing 6th place in the Nation!

What's Happening Now?

This year, the team is at it again, with students setting personal monthly goals to maximize their impact. As Mrs. Thurman says, "I never tell my students that this is a requirement, instead, I tell them you can make an impact. You can fulfill a need."

The FBLA students will present their completed hats to Fayetteville's Arkansas Children's Hospital at their spring conference in January. But the work doesn't stop there! They'll immediately start knitting more for North Arkansas Regional Medical Center and local nursing homes.

How YOU Can Help!

Our students are aiming high again! Their goal is to knit over 200 preemie baby hats for North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, 800 baby hats + 100 preemie baby hats for Arkansas Children's Hospital, and 50 hats for a local nursing home in Harrison.

Your generosity will make a significant difference in the lives of tiny fighters and their families. Here's how to support this wonderful cause:

  • Donate Yarn: We are specifically seeking bulky size 6 yarn.

  • Monetary Donations: These will be used only for the purchase of yarn.
