While our current Arkansas weather may be a bit warm, it is officially "Arctic Season" at Harrison Kindergarten. Throughout the month, students are participating in a multi-sensory, cross-curricular unit designed to make literacy and science come alive through hands-on exploration.
In their classrooms, students are busy sharpening their literacy skills by reading and writing about Arctic wildlife and environments.

The Media Center now features a simulated "frozen tundra", with various "Arctic Stations" where students can apply and extend what they are learning n the classroom. From engineering ice houses with specialized blocks to interacting with a kinetic sand "frozen landscape," the activities are designed to spark curiosity.

One of the highlights is a scientific experiment regarding animal adaptation. To understand how penguins survive the Antarctic cold, students participate in a "blubber" simulation. By placing their hand in a bag filled with a squishy insulating substance and then dipping it into ice water, they can feel firsthand how a layer of fat protects animals from freezing temperatures.

The media center also now houses a massive inflatable igloo. This fun, immersive structure allows students to crawl inside for "Media Center time," providing a unique and magical atmosphere for independent reading.
These creative learning environments are part of Harrison Schools’ ongoing commitment to providing engaging, high-quality education that captures the imaginations of our youngest learners.
