At Harrison Schools, we often talk about the "Goblin Advantage," but few things illustrate it as clearly as having a full-time, doctoral-level professional like Dr. Stacy Moore on our staff. While many districts across the country lack a dedicated school psychologist, Harrison Schools provides this expert resource to ensure every learner—regardless of how their brain is wired—has a path to success.

This week, Dr. Moore shared her expertise with the staff at North Arkansas Community College (Northark) to help them better support neurodivergent students. With nearly 50% of Northark’s students being high schoolers taking concurrent classes, this partnership ensures our Goblins have a "leg up" as they transition to college-level work.

Understanding the Neurodivergent Brain

Dr. Moore provided practical strategies for supporting students including:

ADHD: Focusing on organization and time management.

Dyslexia: Emphasizing conceptual strengths and alternative ways to show knowledge.

Autism: Creating predictable routines to reduce anxiety.

Regarding Autism, Dr. Moore shared a vital reminder: “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” This highlights that there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach; every student has a unique mix of strengths and challenges.

“Knowledge is power,” says Dr. Moore. “Real, practical supports and simple accommodations can have a huge impact on whether a student will be successful at the college level.”

With over 20 years of experience and a Doctorate in School Psychology, Dr. Moore is a champion for every learner in our district. We are so proud to have her on our team!
