student with impossible box

Our talented fourth-grade students are diving headfirst into the exciting world of 3D design using Tinkercad, and the results are truly impressive! This innovative project is not only sparking creativity but also fostering crucial skills that will benefit our students far beyond the classroom.

Recently, our students have been busy bringing their digital designs to life through 3D printing. We're thrilled to showcase some of their incredible creations:

Liam proudly printed a prototype of a custom Nintendo Switch holder.

Rihana designed and printed her very own functional cup.

Many students have successfully tackled the challenge of printing an "impossible box" – a complex design that truly tests their spatial reasoning and design skills.

What is Tinkercad and Why is it So Beneficial?

Tinkercad is a user-friendly, web-based 3D modeling program that allows students to design, modify, and create objects in a virtual environment. It's an ideal tool for introducing young learners to the principles of computer-aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (3D printing).

This project goes far beyond just creating cool objects. By engaging with Tinkercad and 3D printing, our students are developing a wide range of valuable skills:

Problem-Solving: Students learn to identify challenges and design solutions, like Liam creating a holder for his Switch.

Spatial Reasoning: They develop a better understanding of three-dimensional space and how objects fit together.

Creativity and Innovation: Tinkercad empowers them to bring their unique ideas to life, fostering a mindset of innovation.

Critical Thinking: Students must think critically about design constraints, material properties, and the printing process.

Digital Literacy: They gain essential experience with digital tools and technologies, preparing them for an increasingly digital world.

Future Career Pathways: Exposure to CAD and 3D printing at an early age introduces them to fields like engineering, product design, architecture, and manufacturing, potentially inspiring future career choices. These are high-demand skills in a rapidly evolving job market!

We are incredibly proud of our fourth graders for their enthusiasm, ingenuity, and dedication to learning. Their work in Tinkercad is a testament to the power of hands-on, project-based learning and an exciting glimpse into the future of education!

Stay tuned for more amazing creations from our talented students!
