A beautiful milestone for the Homegrown Stories project happened today, proving that agriculture and storytelling can unite our entire school community—from elementary to high school!
Farmer Jack and the Never-Ending Puzzle made an official debut at Skyline Heights Elementary. Lily Burns, a junior at Harrison High School and daughter of "Farmer Jack," visited Mrs. Catt’s first-grade classroom to share the story of her father and their family farm.
It all started when two students had an idea and believed in it. Now, because of their hard work, Farmer Jack’s story is being shared in our classrooms!
"Lily got to share her dad’s book with Mrs. Catt’s class today. What a full circle moment for us... Farmer Jack is here and his story is being shared!" — Homegrown Stories Team
Bridging the Gap Through Student Leadership
Homegrown Stories is a student-led book series born in Mrs. Stephanie Benton’s Harrison Middle School classroom and funded by the Harrison Schools Foundation.
The High School Connection: Lily Burns (HHS Junior) is helping pass the torch by sharing her family's heritage with the next generation.
The HMS Creators: Our middle schoolers led the research and marketing, mentored by local author Brandy Mincer.
The Student Talent: Featuring beautiful illustrations by 8th grader Madelyn Sutton and a family biography by Josalyn Likes.
Teachers & Community Members: We want to keep this momentum going! If you are a teacher—or anyone who would love to have this story read aloud in your classroom or group—the team would love to hear from you. Please contact Homegrown Stories to schedule a visit!
