Yesterday, Forest Heights Elementary 4th graders received a mini-class in farming as local retired agriculture teacher Chris Adams and Harrison High School agriculture students Mirabella Quenzer and Logan Widner visited their classrooms. The team spent the day building on the students' current reading unit, "A New Kind of Corn," turning pages of text into a living lesson.
The visit gave elementary students a firsthand look at the agricultural concepts they’ve been studying in class. By connecting with older students who are active in the field, the 4th graders were able to see the real-world applications of their curriculum in a relatable and engaging way.
We want to shine a bright spotlight on the Harrison High School Agriculture Department for their dedication to community outreach. It is truly impressive to see students like Mirabella and Logan volunteering their time and sharing their specialized knowledge so selflessly. These interactions do more than just teach a lesson about corn; they foster a vital sense of community across our district. When our high schoolers step up as mentors and our local experts give back to the next generation, it creates a shared learning environment that benefits students of all ages.
