Lily Burns reads to elementary students

The Homegrown Stories project is officially on the move! Today, the team behind Farmer Jack and the Never-Ending Puzzle traveled to neighboring Valley Springs Schools for the first "on the road" stop of their book tour.

The visiting team included project sponsor Stephanie Benton, local author Brandy Mincer, student illustrator Madelyn Sutton, and Harrison High School junior Lily Burns, daughter of the book’s subject, "Farmer Jack."

Lily Burns read the story aloud to an engaged audience of Valley Springs elementary students. As the daughter of a local farmer, Lily shared the importance of agriculture and the impact it has on everyone, taking the time to answer questions from the eager young readers.

The visit was as generous as it was collaborative. To support the next generation of readers and growers in a fellow "agri" district, the team:

  • Donated a copy of Farmer Jack and the Never-Ending Puzzle to the Valley Springs School Library.

  • Presented each classroom with a seed kit to encourage hands-on learning.

  • Gifted every student a special "Farmer Jack" bookmark to commemorate the day.

"Homegrown Stories" was made possible by a grant from the Harrison Public Schools Foundation. By taking their message to neighboring districts like Valley Springs, these Harrison students are highlighting the shared values and agricultural heritage that already unite our entire region.
