For most of us, clean water is just a turn of a faucet away. But for children in South Sudan, their daily commute involves walking miles just to find a single gallon of water. After reading the book A Long Walk to Water, Ms. Staci Tucker’s 7th Grade AP class decided they couldn't just sit back and ignore this reality.
They didn't just feel inspired—they took action to bring clean water to those who need it most.
On Saturday, April 11, Harrison Middle School hosted the Iron Giraffe Challenge. This was a 100% student-led initiative. From the initial planning to designing the custom event t-shirts, these students did it all!
Their Goal: $1,000
Total Raised: Over $1,400!
Because of this hard work and the incredible generosity of our Harrison community, Harrison Middle School will help sponsor a new water well in South Sudan. By joining forces with other schools to fund this project, our students are helping provide safe, clean water to an entire community, allowing children to spend their time in school rather than walking for survival.
The impact didn't stop at the fundraising. Because of their dedication, HMS was one of only 4 schools out of 187 selected to participate in an exclusive video call with the Water for South Sudan team!
Our students had the rare opportunity to speak directly with the people on the ground building these wells. They learned about South Sudanese culture and saw firsthand how their compassion is transforming lives, improving health, and creating a brighter future for families thousands of miles away.
"I am beyond proud of the compassion and leadership these students have shown. They proved that you are never too young to make a global impact." — Mrs. Staci Tucker
Please join us in celebrating these amazing young leaders! They haven't just raised money; they've shared hope. Good job, students! Good job, Mrs. Tucker!
