This afternoon, the Harrison Administration building was filled with laughter, smiles, and a few happy tears as employees and friends gathered to celebrate the retirement of our colleague, Laura Tolhurst.
Laura has been a vital part of the Harrison School District family, wearing many hats and touching countless lives along the way: She first joined us keeping our students safe and healthy as a substitute nurse, before transitioning to the classroom as a Special Education Paraprofessional. For the last several years, Laura has poured her heart into our Life Skills and Pathways programs.
Laura shared just how much her time here has meant to her: "My years with the Harrison School District have been some of the happiest years of my life. I have made amazing friendships, and I will be forever grateful for having one of the best jobs ever, working with the best and smartest students in Life Skills and Pathways. But most of all, I have had the best teacher, Lisa Huff, to work with for so many years. She has become a dear friend and prayer warrior for life . Our students are survivors, they are smart, loving, and compassionate individuals, and they have so much potential."
While we are sad to see her leave the classroom, we are incredibly happy for Laura as she steps into a well-deserved retirement filled with quality time spent with family.
Laura, your flexibility, compassion, and dedication have left a lasting footprint on our district. Thank you for always putting our students first.
