The final bell of the 2025-2026 school year brought more than just the promise of summer; it brought the Harrison School District family together to honor the legacies of its most dedicated members. Last Friday, the district held its End of Year Meeting and Celebration, a morning filled with gratitude and the recognition of decades of service.
Superintendent Dr. Stewart Pratt opened the ceremony by noting the importance of closing the year on a positive note. "Today, it is our privilege to honor commitment and service to our staff," Dr. Pratt shared as the district recognized milestones and bid a "bittersweet" farewell to those entering retirement.
In a moving addition to the program, several district parents took the stage to share their personal appreciation for the staff. While their stories varied, the message was unanimous: the teachers and support staff of Harrison have made a profound, positive impact on the lives of their children. These heartfelt tributes served as a powerful reminder of the lasting influence the district's employees have on the community every day.
The heart of the ceremony focused on retirees who have collectively poured decades into the students and community of Harrison. Each was invited to the podium to receive their honors and a table centerpiece created by the HHS FFA leaders and students.

Shawn Tuck (25 Years at Harrison): A master of "class redirection," Tuck spent 35 total years in education molding the district’s youngest learners in kindergarten.
Mary Gibson (18 Years at Harrison): A foundation of the HHS social studies department, Gibson is a state-recognized expert in AP History who is famously kicking off her retirement with a "Girls Trip" to Scotland.
Laura Tolhurst (16 Years at Harrison): Known for her "sweet voice" and patience, Tolhurst served as a Pathways para, dedicated to supporting students facing significant challenges.
Ron Marcum (8 Years at Harrison): A longtime bus driver and primary trip driver, Marcum was recognized for his influence on students and his well-known passion for singing Gospel music.
James Creager (7 Years at Harrison): Beyond driving bus routes, Creager was honored for his multifaceted service as a substitute teacher, foster parent, and local firefighter.
The district also celebrated those who have reached significant career benchmarks, including Diana Lovell, who was specially recognized for her 32 years with the Harrison School District. Other major milestones included:

As the meeting concluded with door prizes and final remarks, Dr. Pratt encouraged the staff to reflect on their collective accomplishments. "You are the heart and soul of our district," he told the assembled crowd, acknowledging that while not every data point could be shared, the impact of the 2025-2026 school year was undeniable.
