It’s fair time in Boone county - and at Forest Heights Elementary media specialist Tammy Ward is taking learning for a spin! She read aloud to 4th grade students from the book "Mr. Ferris and His Wheel" about George Washington Gale Ferris and his creation of the first Ferris wheel for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Students then completed a hands-on activity with LEGO Education SPKE, a science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics learning system, designing and building their very own Ferris wheels!
The fun didn’t stop there! Using coding, students programmed their creations to light up, play music, and even stop to let passengers off—just like the real thing!
Great job, Mrs. Ward!

Mrs. Kheidi Davis' gifted and talented students traveled back in time this week! As they read "Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder, they got a first-hand look at pioneer life by making their own butter.
Students "churned" heavy whipping cream into butter by simply shaking it in glass jars. They then compared store-bought rolls and butter with delicious homemade rolls and their very own fresh-churned butter. It was a fun and tasty way to learn about the incredible skills and intelligence pioneers needed to create their own food!

Our kindergarten learners had a blast in the media center this week! Students in Heather Waller's library dove into the beloved classic tale of "The Three Little Pigs." They cheered for the clever third little pig who built his sturdy home out of bricks and learned a valuable lesson about the rewards of hard work.
After the story, the students became engineers themselves! They used different materials to build their own unique houses and then finally put their creations to the ultimate test. Was the big bad wolf no match for their designs? You'll have to ask them how each of their houses held up!

Kirsten Motley's gifted and talented students at Skyline Heights explored skills from a time long ago though a fun educational activity today. After reading about the process of butter-making in Laura Ingalls Wilder's book "Little House in the Big Woods," the class decided to try the task themselves.
This wasn't just a simple cooking project; it was a hands-on exploration of history, science, and the ingenuity of early pioneers. Students watched videos explaining the science of butter making before pouring cream into a jar, then taking turns shaking it to churn the cream into butter.
After their butter was churned, students were given the option to taste the buttermilk and then to sample their butter on delicious hot rolls.
