Parents, do you remember when students took one big, scary test at the end of the year to assess their academic progress?
Today, we use Interim Assessments to avoid waiting until the last minute!
Think of it like a GPS:
The Goal: Proficiency by the end of the year.
The Interim Test: A mid-trip check to see where you are.
The Result: If the results show a gap, we don't punish the map; we adjust the route! We drive our instruction to fill those gaps immediately, not next year.
Their score is simply a data point we use to make our teaching more effective. Partner with us to use this information to help them grow!

This week, Ms. Still and Ms. Duggan's 5th graders at Harrison Middle School are getting hands-on with some real-world science! As part of their unit on ecosystems and owls, students are stepping into the shoes of paleontologists to conduct owl pellet dissections.
Owl pellets are the indigestible parts of an owl's meal—like bones, fur, and feathers—that the owl regurgitates. Instead of passing through the digestive tract, these parts form a compact pellet. By dissecting them, students are able to:
Learn about the owl's diet and its role as a predator in the local ecosystem.
Practice scientific classification by identifying and sorting the bones (like tiny skulls, jaws, and vertebrae) of the owl's prey (rodents, shrews, birds, etc.) using a bone sorting chart (like the one pictured !).
Understand the food web and how energy moves through different organisms in an ecosystem.
This unique activity allows students to combine their knowledge of life science with the hands-on fun of discovery! Way to go, 5th grade! We can't wait to see what interesting prey bone fragments you uncover and classify!

Giving Thanks by Giving Back!
While many were enjoying Thanksgiving leftovers, our incredible Harrison Middle School (HMS) Cheerleaders were busy spreading holiday cheer in the community!
Over the break, they traded in their pompoms for bells and spent their time volunteering as Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army. This is a true example of service and compassion! We are so proud of these students for demonstrating what it means to be Goblins in our community.

The Christmas season is fast approaching. With this in mind, we would like to extend an invitation to our
athletes, Athlete Advisory Council, district faculty and the whole Harrison community to join the athletic
department in helping some of our students in the Harrison School District experience a better
Christmas.
Many years ago, Beta Upsilon Sorority started a Christmas Shopping Spree. Students were chosen from
each campus to go on a $100 Shopping Spree at Wal-Mart. This past year we were able to take over 100
students and hope to help the same amount this year. Last year we increased that amount to $125.00
and we were still be able to take 100 students shopping.
This is how the program works: Students will be chosen by each schools’ administrators, nurses and
other faculty. 7th/8th grade and high school students will be given a gift card to Wal-Mart to be used as
they desire. Students K-6th grade will be taken by bus (with Santa driving) to Wal-Mart to shop
alongside a JR or SR athlete. We will then finish the morning off with pizza and plenty of Mountain Dew
at the Cash Center.
The number of students chosen this year will depend on the amount of donations received. If you or
your group are interested in making a donation, please send your check to Harrison High School, c/o
Kathy Williams, School Administrative Assistant, 925 Goblin Drive, Harrison, AR 72601. Checks can be
made payable to the HHS Christmas Fund. No donation is too small. Please make your donation no later
than December 10th.

Our Harrison Preschool students and their families did so well with a recent "Disguise-a-Turkey" challenge!
Students took a turkey outline worksheet home and worked with their families to transform it using drawings, paper, and lots of creativity. The goal was to give the turkey a disguise so it could survive Thanksgiving!
