🎨💻 EAST@HMS Upgrade Grant in Action! 💻🎨

Here’s another item our EAST@HMS students purchased using Upgrade Grant funds—the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro Drawing Tablet!

Dean, one of our resident artists, has taken on the responsibility of learning how to use this new tool and then training other EAST students to use it as well. We are excited to see how this technology will inspire creativity and collaboration within our program.

🤝💙 EAST Project Spotlight: Food for Friends 💙🤝

Bellah and Abbey are working on an EAST project focused on addressing food insecurity called Food for Friends. As part of their project, they set up a meeting with representatives from Ozark Share and Care.

Ferrin Carlton visited with this group and 6th period EAST, sharing insight into Ozark Share and Care’s mission, what happens day to day, and the many volunteer opportunities available.

Ozark Share and Care is truly an amazing asset to the people of Harrison and the surrounding area, and we are grateful for their time, knowledge, and continued service to our community. 🌟

Student artist Josalyn L, an 8th grader at Harrison Middle School, created this beautiful pastel zebra, now proudly on display at the Boone County Library.

This artwork was created under the guidance of her art teacher, April Mattix, and is part of the 2026 Ozark Mountain Student Art Show, which features artwork from 10 talented HMS students. We are so proud of our young artists and their creativity!

A huge thank you to Charlotte for speaking at our 5th Grade FCA! The students truly enjoyed her message and were inspired by her words about living for Jesus. We’re so grateful for her time, heart, and encouragement—it made a meaningful impact on our kids! 💛✝️

Sunset in a Bag Lab 🌅🧪
Students mixed phenol red, water, baking soda, and calcium chloride to observe evidence of a chemical reaction. As the substances reacted, students noticed exciting color and temperature changes—clear signs that a chemical change had occurred! This hands-on, visual lab helped reinforce key concepts of chemical reactions while exploring endothermic vs. exothermic processes. Learning science through experimentation makes it even more memorable!

Thanks to an EAST Upgrade Grant, our EAST@HMS program was able to purchase this exciting new equipment! EAST students are already eager to put the camera to use—documenting their projects, capturing their learning, and creating new videos to showcase their hard work and creativity.

Congratulations to Brayden! Brayden was nominated by his Career Development teacher, Maribeth O'Dell, for being a Math Marvel. This award goes to students who exhibit excitement and expertise in the world of mathematics. Brayden applied his math skills to stock market analysis in Mrs. O'Dell's class. As a winning student, he received an invitation to attend a winners live zoom/webinar with Military Aviation Veteran Brian Moles, who worked on the Wonderworks STEM exhibit. He also received 4 tickets to visit Wonderworks Branson. Way to go Brayden! @wonderworks_br

Students in Mrs. O'Dell's Career Development class got real this week! Get Real is a program created by the University of Arkansas Research & Extension. Thank you to our local Boone County Extension Service for bringing this outstanding program to Harrison Middle School. Local agents partner with parents/guardians and community stakeholders to help students understand the impact education has on career options and lifestyle.
