We are proud to announce that Grace Yancey has won the Lions International Peace Poster Contest for our district!

Grace’s artwork will now advance to Lions International, where it will compete with entries from students ages 11–13 around the world. 🌍✨

The Peace Poster Contest gives students an opportunity to express what peace means to them through art — and Grace did an incredible job!

Our Harrison Middle School chess team showed up and showed out at the regional chess tournament hosted by Ozarks Unlimited Resources Educational Service Cooperative!

With 100 students competing, Harrison School District proudly brought home NINE trophies! 🏆💙💛

🧪 Science in Action!
Mrs. Bryant’s 7th grade science students have been busy in the lab creating bioplastic!

Using a mixture of cornstarch, water, and vegetable oil, students explored how combining natural materials can form a synthetic product. This hands-on experiment helped students understand how science connects natural resources to the materials we use every day. 🌱💙💛

In October, HMS hosted the Trailblazer Spooky Narrative Writing Contest! Students had the opportunity to show off their storytelling talents and creativity.

Winners received cash prizes ($25, $15, $10), a writing journal + pen, and other fun treats!

In Mrs. Bryant’s science class, students experimented with acetic acid and sodium carbonate. When these two reactants were combined inside a balloon, they produced water, carbon dioxide, and sodium acetate — causing the balloon to inflate!

Students observed that the mass of the reactants equaled the mass of the products, demonstrating the Law of Conservation of Matter. ⚗️💙💛

Mrs. Scoggins’ science students experimented with chemical reactions to review the Law of Conservation of Matter and balancing equations. ⚗️

By mixing acetic acid (vinegar) and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), students produced carbon dioxide gas — enough to inflate their balloons! 🎈💙💛

Cross-Curricular Learning at Harrison Middle School! 🏫💪✏️
Coach Klott’s PE classes took learning to the next level by blending Literacy, Writing, and Science into their physical education lessons! Students chose a topic from the PE Word Wall and wrote 2–3 sentences about it, created a graph or picture with a short description, and students were encouraged to provide printed resources for their work.

We love seeing our Goblins make connections across subjects while staying active and engaged! 💛💙
