HMS 8th grade students recently had an exciting, hands-on experience with the Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshop! Students explored a variety of high-demand career pathways while getting to operate cutting-edge, high-tech simulators.
Our student ambassadors did an amazing job stepping into leadership roles—training their peers and helping guide them through each experience! 👏
Be Pro Be Proud, Inc. is leading the movement to inspire a new generation of pride, progress, and opportunity in America’s skilled workforce—and our students got a firsthand look at what their futures could hold!

We’ve got something to brag about! 🎉
Levi H was the only HMS student to compete in today’s high school chess tournament—and he made it count! 💪
✔️ Played 5 matches
✔️ Won 4 games
✔️ Helped his team place 2nd out of 13 districts
That’s an incredible accomplishment, Levi! 👏

Our amazing HMS cafeteria staff got into the holiday spirit by baking 10 sheet cakes of delicious green cake to treat all of our students today! 💚
We are so grateful for everything they do each and every day—serving up warm, delicious meals and caring for our students with a smile. Thank you for making today extra special! 🍰✨

Students worked in groups to build food chains, with each type of candy representing a different trophic level in the energy pyramid. For example, some candies represented producers (plants), while others represented primary consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers.
As students built their food chains, they discussed how energy moves from the sun to producers and then to consumers. The marshmallows and candies helped visually demonstrate how energy decreases as it moves up each trophic level.

A letter with important details about 7th grade math placement will be sent home on March 16, 2026. HMS 6th graders will take the Algebra Readiness Test on April 1, 2026 as part of the placement process for next year’s math classes.
This assessment helps determine eligibility for Pre-Algebra, which begins the Accelerated Math Path and prepares students for Algebra 1 in 8th grade.
Please review the letter carefully, and if you have questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Keele or Mr. Jones.
We’re excited to help our students plan for a strong academic future! 💙
A big thank you to 7th grader Kayleigh from Coach Mattix’s art class for transforming a simple classroom trash can into a work of art. She painted it to look like an airplane window with a beautiful sunset view. 🌅
The trash can will live in Mrs. Jackson’s classroom, where students will study aviation next school year. It’s a fun and creative way to connect art with learning and make the classroom a little more inspiring.
Great work, Kayleigh! Even the trash gets a window seat now. ✈️

🎉 Congratulations to our Harrison Middle School Students! 🎉
Harrison Middle School is proud to celebrate the students who earned ATLAS Test Exemption Days through their hard work and academic achievement!
Each year, students who achieve designated benchmark scores or demonstrate qualifying growth on the previous school year’s Summative ATLAS Test may earn one or two days of exemption from school attendance.
📄 Students who qualified will bring home a letter today on blue paper that includes:
• Their name, grade, and homeroom
• An “X” marking the exemption day(s) they earned
These exemption days will take place Thursday, March 19 and/or Friday, March 20, depending on the level earned.
👏 We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and effort on the 2025 ATLAS Test. Keep up the great work—we can’t wait to see how you do on this year’s test!

High school preparation is happening next week at Harrison Middle School! 🎓
📅 Monday, March 16: 8th grade students will visit the high school to learn about CTE (Career and Technical Education) classes and the opportunities available to them.
📅 Tuesday, March 17: High School Counselors Mrs. Rhein, Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. Thornton will visit HMS to help students select courses for the 2026–2027 school year.
This is an exciting step as our 8th graders begin planning for their high school journey!
Mrs. Scoggins' 7th grade students recently participated in Symbiosis Speed Dating as part of their science lesson! Each student received a character card representing a desert plant or animal and used the information on their card to “meet” other organisms in the room.
As students exchanged clues and facts, they worked to determine what type of ecological relationship they had—mutualism, commensalism, or parasitism. It was a fun and engaging way to bring science concepts to life while practicing communication and critical thinking skills.
Learning about ecosystems has never been so interactive! 🌎

This week, Coach Mattix’s 8th-grade artists explored the intricate world of Block Printing. Here is a look at the creative process students followed:
Design & Transfer: Students sketched original designs and transferred them onto their printing blocks.
Carving: Using Lino cutters with V-shaped and U-shaped tips, students carefully carved away the negative space .
Safety First: Students practiced proper technique by always carving away from their bodies.
Inking: Using a brayer, they spread a thin, even layer of ink onto the raised surface of the block.
Printing: After placing paper over the block, students ran their work through the printing press multiple times to experiment with different colors.
Take a look at these phenomenal examples from Josy with help from Noah! These prints are ready to be matted and framed. Fun fact: This process is so versatile that Josy could even continue printing at home using a simple wooden spoon to apply pressure!
What a beautiful job by these talented students.

🏆 Grateful for the Support
A huge thank you to the Arkansas Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom, funded by the Beef Checkoff and the Arkansas Beef Council, for awarding Mrs. Tomlinson the 2025-26 Beef in the Classroom Grant. This partnership allowed our students to work with high-quality ingredients and dive deep into the world of agriculture.
🚜 From Farm to Table
We kicked things off with a special guest presentation from our own Assistant Principal, Mr. Jones. He shared his expertise on the journey of beef from the farm to the dinner table, teaching students how to read labels and identify various cuts of meat like pros.
🍳 Putting Skills to the Test
After brainstorming their own menu ideas and prepping their recipes, the students hit the kitchen for two weeks of final cooking labs:
🌮 "Taco Bell" Week: Students mastered ground beef preparation to create homemade Crunchwrap Supremes, paired with DIY Baja Blasts.
🥢 "Hibachi" Week: The grand finale featured marinated sirloin steak and savory fried rice, where students practiced their searing and sautéing techniques.
From the first brainstorm to the final sizzle, these students displayed impressive knowledge and kitchen confidence. They walked away with delicious meals and recipes they can use for a lifetime!
Way to go, HMS chefs! 👨🍳👩🍳
