Dear 6th Grade Students and Families,
This is the final reminder from the band directors to return the Instrument Fitting Sheet to your homeroom teacher. They will be going through all returned forms tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon and start determining the instrumentation for each student. Forms can still be returned through this week, but the likelihood of a student receiving their top instrument choice will be much less. Thank you!

We need your help. 21st CCLC programming needs familes/caregivers to complete this survey. If you have a student that has been attending after school programming at Forest Heights, Skyline Heights or at Middle School, can you please click the survey link below. This data will help afterschool programs identify what is going well and areas in which they can improve. We appreciate your help!

Teamwork truly makes the dream work — especially in EAST! 💡🙌
Today, our students had the opportunity to collaborate with two amazing community partners.
🧺 Heather Jenkins with the PTA met with Annabelle and Reese to discuss the logistics of installing a washer and dryer for their “Loads of Laundry” project.
🌲 Casey Johannsen from the National Park Service worked with Boone, Cole, and Freddy on designing a temperature monitoring sign and additional trail signage for their “Trailblazer’s Guide” project.
We are so thankful for community partners who invest their time, knowledge, and support into our students and their innovative EAST projects. Partnerships like these make a lasting impact! 💙

💻🤖 Hands-On Learning in Science Club! 🤖💻
Mrs. Barrett, Elementary Technology Facilitator, brought Ozobots to our 5th/6th Grade Science Club meeting for an exciting computer science lesson!
Students designed and built their own “towns” for their bots, learning how coding and creativity work together to bring technology to life. It was amazing to see their problem-solving skills and imagination on display as they programmed their Ozobots to navigate through the towns they created!
Great job, Science Club! 🌟 #STEMinAction #ComputerScience #FutureInnovators

🏐💙 Future Lady Goblins in the Making! 💙🏐
Coach Mattix and the Harrison Volleyball Team have been hosting a FREE volleyball clinic since January, and sessions will continue through spring break!
The clinic is designed to help future players build their skills, grow their confidence, and get to know Coach Mattix ahead of tryouts.
This marks the third year Coach Mattix has partnered with the after-school program to offer these free clinics — and the results have been incredibly successful! We love seeing our future volleyball players putting in the work and preparing for a great season ahead.

🎨✨ Creativity is shining at HMS! ✨🎶
Our 5th grade students have been learning about famous African American artist Alma Thomas. They explored her signature “dash” technique and used chalk pastels to blend colors, creating a beautiful glowing effect inspired by a warm winter glow. We are so proud of their creativity and attention to detail!
Our 6th grade students are working on Jazz-themed art projects for the upcoming Music Performance on April 9th. Their artwork is inspired by Artist of the Week Romare Bearden, an influential artist of the Harlem Renaissance. Students are incorporating bold colors, movement, and musical elements into their pieces — and they look amazing! 🎷🎵
All parents and families are encouraged to attend the April 9th performance to view the artwork and enjoy the students’ musical presentation. It will be a wonderful celebration of both visual and performing arts! 💙

❤️🔬 Valentine’s Day + STEM = FUN! 🔬❤️
Mrs. Lunsford’s class put their engineering skills to the test with a sweet Valentine’s STEM challenge! Students were tasked with building the longest bridge using only toothpicks, two cups, marshmallows, and fruit gummies. 🍬🦷
They had 25 minutes to design and build — and the creativity was amazing! After measuring each bridge, the team with the longest one took home the win! 🏆👏
Hands-on learning, teamwork, problem-solving… and a little Valentine’s fun mixed in! 💗

🏥🎓 Exploring Future Careers! 🎓🏥
Organized by Mrs. O’Dell, CTE Teacher at HMS, our 8th graders had an exciting opportunity to visit North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, where they toured the hospital and learned about a variety of careers in the medical field. Students gained valuable insight into the many pathways available in healthcare and what it takes to work in this important industry.
After the tour, students enjoyed lunch at North Arkansas College, continuing their exposure to post-secondary opportunities right here in our community.
This experience connects directly to the learning taking place in Mrs. O’Dell’s Career classes, where students explore career pathways, develop career-ready skills, and begin planning for their futures. These real-world opportunities help bring classroom learning to life!
Experiences like this highlight our Career and Technical Education focus — helping students explore real-world careers and plan for their future! 💙

🏐 Volleyball FCA
Led by Mollie Lineberger and Jasinda Edger
This week, Volleyball FCA students talked about the power of love in sports and in everyday life. The focus was on showing kindness, respect, and selflessness — both on and off the court.
Athletes reflected on how to support teammates, help friends in need, and even show respect to rivals. They were reminded that great competitors stand out not just for their skills, but for their character, integrity, and compassion. 💛

🎨🗑️ Turning Trash into Treasure! 🗑️🎨
Kayleigh Brandon and Emma Croft designed and painted this fun, creative trashcan for Mrs. Thurman’s classroom! The girls wanted to make our environment more colorful and inviting — and they definitely delivered! 💜✨
They chose a classic Friends theme, featuring the iconic purple door highlighted with the gold frame around the peephole. Such a fun and recognizable design! 🚪⭐
We love seeing our students use their creativity to brighten our school and make learning spaces even more enjoyable. Great job, girls! 💙
